No Worry – I Choose Faith #NaBloPoMo

We all have those lists or things we would do ‘if only‘. Travel, shop, achieve. Yet what about the intangible things? What wish would you grant yourself if you could get rid of something that was a part of who you are? If you could rid yourself of just one thing, one worry do you know what you would choose?

NaBloPoMo November 2014 |

November 11th:

If you could permanently get rid of one worry, what would it be?

Worry. That little emotion and habit that can rob a day of it’s fun and a moment of it’s joy. How? By distracting you from what is happening right then and forcing you to focus instead on what could be, what may be and what might be. I have always been a worrier. I always tried to plan for the possibilities and even the impossibilities yet there were times when all my planning made me miss the very things I wanted to protect.

It’s as if I was born with that little voice in the back of my mind challenging my happiness with those questions I can never seem to answer. What if this happens? Why not do it this way? So if I could get rid of just one of those worries that plague me which one would it be? Financial stability, health, safety? These used to be my worries. Each one with it’s own theft of my joy. I wanted to be rid of them all. I wanted peace. That’s when I sought out comfort in the only place I know I will always find it – God’s Word.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life ?

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.

Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Matthew 6: 26-34

I have learned how to mute that voice with my Faith. Faith tells me that no matter what could happen God is always in control of what happens. I rest easy in that. I stop wondering and start enjoying the moments I am being blessed with right now. When those worries try to creep back up I remind myself who My God is. I don’t worry. Instead I choose to be happy. Happy in the promises He has made and will keep.

So if I had to choose it would be worry but since God has taken care of that for me I really don’t know how else to answer. I feel that worry will always be present but my choice to allow it to overwhelm me as it use to is what has changed. I know now that I have a choice.

No Worry - I Choose Faith "Faith tells me that no matter what could happen God is always in control of what happens. I rest easy in that. "

What are some of your biggest worries?

How do you get past them?

Thankfully, I have gotten much better with my worries. I've learned to realize worry is a nasty thief that robs you from your now. When I begin to worry, I find that place, that calming place within, or I find that other side of me the one that says SHUT UP DEAN! You're gonna be okay 🙂
The other side of me also motivates me to finish sprints 🙂

I have gotten back to meditating and reading the word first thing in the morning because worry was starting to steal my joy. This post is great. My aunt always says "If you're going to worry, why pray. If you're going to pray, why worry." I repeat this to myself all the time.

I worry that I let a lot of people down. I also worry that I don't do enough because of disability. I let it define me. God, however, is working with me on these issues. I love the scriptures you included they were definitely helpful. God has everything under control. I have to seek Him first. Thanks for this important reminder.

I was always told to "Give it to God," but the truth is I'm a little stubborn and selfish sometimes. I do try not to worry, but it's one of those things that's easier said than done and it's usually when I'm almost to my breaking point that I remember I don't have to do it all alone! I'm generally one of those happy-go-lucky people, but every now and then I panic about something. It's usually about my kids or money and I handle it with prayer and talking to my Momma!!

Giving up something that we are so used to holding on to and carrying on our own can be a difficult ask and at times a lot easier said than done. Oh but when we do. When we release those things and accept the better that God has for us – what a joy it can bring!! The peace of knowing that God has it under control – definitely worth the letting go I would say 🙂 Thanks so much for coming by today Elizabeth!

Yes! That used to be me but when it started affecting my health and my day-to-day I had to do something. You\’re right, nothing is worth missing out on the moments and memories you have in life. Thanks so much for coming by Susan 😀

Amen Kimberly! Those are definitely two things worth dismissing from your life. Thank you and thanks so much for coming by today 😀

I was a champion worrier for years until I learned that worry and fear are the opposite of faith! That's when I gave all of my worries to God and refused to take them back. Am I tempted to worry? Of course, but when that temptation comes, God always gives me a way of escape. And that peace that passes all understanding has helped me to conquer worry and remind it that it has no hold on me.

A ‘champion worrier’ I think that is a great way to describe it and that may be what I was as well. I love that God doesn’t do refunds only exchanges!! He never gives us back the same mess we offer to him but only gives us better and more. How awesome is our God!?!?! Exactly – fear and worry have no hold on us because God said so and that is all it takes!

Hi Christy! I think this is the mind of every woman, wife and mother – we always have that seemingly never ending list of things to do and be done still to worry about them is totally different than to be aware of them. Thanks so much for coming by – always great to see a comment from you 🙂

Always. I had to learn it in time but it was definitely worth learning. God’s Word is such a great way to remind ourselves of the blessings and promises He wants to give to us each day. Thanks so much for coming by to visit Rachel!!
