Fayetteville Minor League Baseball Stadium · America’s Hometown Hits A Home Run

Press/Media Coverage Disclosure

Fayetteville is known as America’s Hometown – a place where you can feel at home no matter what your background or origin. A city full of diversity, innovation and unique perspectives that come together to create a community determined to spark progress and opportunity for every citizen. The Fayetteville Minor League Baseball Stadium is one project that is destined to be a home run for our city in every way!

Plans To Believe In

As part of a VIP Media Tour with the City of Fayetteville, I had the chance to take a behind the scenes look at the construction site for the new baseball stadium. I am going to be completely honest with ya’ll. I’m not one of those people who can look at a vacant lot and see the grand building it will be. I need the story, purpose and plan for what is to come before I can see it in my head – normally.

This day was different. Somehow Barton Malow Construction Senior Project Manager Roslyn Henderson was able to tell a story that transformed the red dirt, rebar and steel frames into an actual stadium. From start to finish Roslyn was able tell the story behind every structure, placement and design making it something I could not only envision but believe in.

As we walked the site, I began to realize that the baseball stadium is set to be far more than a place to catch a good game. The vision of the City of Fayetteville, City Baseball Committee and the Fayetteville Astros™ is to make the stadium a multi-purpose entertainment venue. In or out of season, the stadium will be available to the community for concerts and other outdoor events.

As Roslyn pointed out the locations for the 360° Concourse that will encircle the field, the Kids’ Play Area, Batting Tunnels, Retail locations, Party Deck, Right Field Bar and Home Team Dugout I started to see myself – my family – among the crowd enjoying not only a great game but a great community. It’s amazing how knowing the why behind the plans brought things to life.

A Lasting Legacy

Roslyn let us in on the plans to give the Fayetteville Community a chance to create their own legacy within the stadium in a really fun way. Towards the end of the construction there will be a beam that will travel through the community and neighboring communities through other games, events, schools, Astros brand launch parties and other community events where City Officials, Businesses and other Community Members can sign the beam. That bean will then be placed on site to and become a part of the legacy of the stadium forever.

Investments In Our Community

Listening to the planning and passion put into this project proved to me that although this is going to be a major impact on the economy of Fayetteville it is also about building the community itself.

The stadium’s construction company Barton Manlow is also making efforts to bring growth and impact to the City of Fayetteville. Through a work force and development program partnered with NC Works Career Center and Fayetteville Technical Community College they are providing on-the-job training to workers giving them the chance learning various skills which will then allow them to be hired by the sub-contractors and have a long-term employment.

Fayetteville’s Hometown Home Run

The opportunity to learn both the why and the how behind the Fayetteville Baseball Stadium has given me a new insight and passion for seeing its completion. This stadium will add to that hometown feel Fayetteville is known to have.

This stadium is more than a structure, more than a field. This stadium is an opportunity for our community to grow, expand and support each citizen through jobs, business opportunities, education, community and so much more!

When you look up the word combination ‘home run’ you find two definitions:

Baseball: Home Run – a base hit when the batters scores a run

Real Life: Home Run – something that succeeds in achieving its goal

Definition Source

The Fayetteville Minor League Stadium is set to be a place where the amazing athletes of the game can achieve their home run goals but it is also a place that will allow the City of Fayetteville to achieve its real life home run by creating a place of progress and opportunity every citizen.

Fun Facts

George Herman ‘Babe’ Ruth Jr. got his famous nickname during a stay in Fayetteville, NC for an exhibition game. Babe hit a home run in the last inning of the game at the Cape Fear Fair Ground.

You can watch the progress of the Fayetteville Minor League Baseball Stadium via Live Cam!

A Batter’s Eye is a black screen located on the field that acts as a visual to help batter’s see the ball while waiting on a pitch. Batter’s aren’t allowed to wear white sleeves because it would interfere with seeing the ball. They wear black or dark colored sleeves to avoid concealing the ball.

On July 18, 2018 the City of Fayetteville announced their partnership (watch the announcement) with The Big South Conference for The Fayetteville Baseball Stadium to be the host for the upcoming 2019-2021 Season.
