Today’s Challenge: Dig out a childhood photo and share something you remember happening during that time the photo was taken. You can post as many photos and describe as many events if you like.
This was my very first year of school. I was in Kindergarten and that’s me within the pink heart. My Grandmother loved doing my hair in pig tails. This day she let me pick out my own outfit. I always loved this dress because it was a mock 2 piecer (like a big girl’s) and the blouse had a bunch of ruffles like one that my Grandmother had. I went to a Catholic Elementary School so any day without my normal uniform was a special treat. I loved my special ‘church’ Mary Jane shoes and when she said I could wear them to school I was beyond excited!
I can remember the first day of school I was so excited. I was going to school! I wanted to learn so bad (yes I was a nerd from the very start). I remember the smell of my new composition notebook and my fat pencils and my box of crayons. I remember picking out my book bag with my Grandmother and hoping it wasn’t going to be the one everyone else had (it wasn’t 🙂 )
My Kindergarten school year was such a great experience. I learned so much and made a lot of new friends. Friends I still have even to this day. My teacher’s name was Sister Terese and she was amazing. She was stern and a no nonsense type of woman BUT she always let you know that she cared for you and what you cared about. When I struggled making my letters (the letter ‘f’ especially) she sat there with me for what felt like eternity until I got it right. It was like I was her only student.
My experience with Sister Terese helped me to become a life-long student and lover of learning… she helped me on my journey to being who I am today: a true Nerd-Girl at heart.
