The Only Father I Knew

The Only Father I Knew

The only Father I Knew | TheMrsTee.com

We never had the memories of how I grew up

We never spent lazy weekends playing games or watching cartoons

We never had fun days at the movies or playing games

We never spent hours just talking about how life was

We never made it to the Father – Daughter dances

We never had all of our second chances

No, We never did

You stood up for me against the words others spoke

I still hear the pride when you said ‘She’s mine’

You loved me the best you could when you could

I still feel the hugs you gave – they never went away

You gave me all you knew how even when you couldn’t be there

I still wish it was more – but I know it wasn’t all your fault

Yes, I know that

On this Father’s Day and on all the rest

I write out these feelings straight from my heart

Though your life was short your love was true

I may never know the full story

But the one thing I know is

You were the only father I knew

This is a great way to get those feelings out! M dad and I had our ups and downs growing up but now that we are both adults, he needed to grow up too, our bond is stronger than ever. I am glad my husband learned from his fathers mistakes as did I and I think it makes us better parents.

It really is. Writing is my release for sadness, joy…everything. It always helps. I\’m glad you and your father had that chance to grow up and repair what was lacking.

What a beautiful tribute to honor your dad. It's not only the lazy weekends, the fun days and dances that make you bond with your dad. The hugs, the kisses and everything else that they taught us are the best.

That is so beautiful. I'm not sure how you lost your father, but I'm so glad that you still remember him fondly. This is such a wonderful tribute to a father who may have had problems but still clearly did his best to be the father you deserved. I'm all teary eyed right now!

I knew my father until my mother and him got a divorce then he left. I was around 5 never saw him again until 22. I wish I knew him more because it was strange not having a father around.

Hi Kita. I know how difficult it is to not have a Father who is present. Still having that chance to get to know him, even if later in life, is such a blessing.
