This week’s prompt is one that calls upon us to take a look at what we know, what we have experience in and even what we may see ourselves and knowledgeable about and share it with others. I don’t see myself as an expert in many things but I do know that I always try to learn from my experiences. As a new Blogger the first thing I had the chance to learn was finding the support of a community. The second thing was how to be a true support within that community.
As a Blogger finding a community of like-minded Bloggers with similar goals, ambition and drive can be difficult to say the least. Yet when you do it is one of the biggest assets to anyone looking to find true success. Once you are a part of a Blogging Community learning how to support that community is key to it’s success as well as your own.
Joining an Online Community or Facebook Group is only the first step but there are several other things needed to be an active support to that community.
Give your fellow Bloggers well thought out, constructive and supportive comments. Each time I read a new comment on my site I am excited to see what impact my words had on someone, did they relate, disagree, empathize? When I write I write to share my feeling, experience and emotions. So when someone comments I am always eager to see what they felt as they read. This is true for most Bloggers. Needless to say, reading a comment that is clearly no more than a pass through can be a bit of a let down: “Nice post.” “Thanks for sharing” Or even a comment that is no more than a plug for someone’s own site and content: “Great post, I just wrote this one…come see” “Would love a follow”. As a rule of thumb I always try to give the comment I would want to receive. If I read a post and it truly had no significant impact on me or even if I simply can’t find the words to explain the impact it had – I don’t comment. Quality is better than quantity even with comments.
Share, Pin, Like and spread the word about other Blogger’s sites and content. When I am at a loss for words or a post simply resonates with me to the point where I know it needs to be seen by others that’s when I take those few moments to share. Whether I Pin, Tweet, Google+, Like or share to Facebook I do my best to get the word out that ‘Hey! This is something you all need to read and here’s why…’
You know that saying ‘what goes around comes around’? Most times when you are a person who supports in sharing the content of fellow Bloggers in your community they are more than willing and most times eager to return that same support to you.
Share your knowledge – if you know a tip, trick or guide to doing something share. There are times when we all need a bit of help. Making a thumbnail, editing an image, how to share…how to anything. If you have knowledge that can be a help to the next person share it. There are so many things that I have learned from the amazing Bloggers within my community that would have been so much harder for me to find or figure out on my own.

I started a blog only last week so I've been reading up on blogging communities. This is one of the most useful pieces that I've found on the topic. Thanks so much.
Congratulations Melissa!! I am so glad you found it helpful!! Please let me know if you need or have any questions… It\’s all about support 🙂
How very kind of you. There's so much to learn about blogging. Your membership page was very insightful and I'm looking into the communities that you belong to. This is all so exciting. 😀
Anytime! I hope you find answers to any questions you have and once again feel free to ask for anything you can’t find.. 🙂
Thanks for these awesome points! Just started blogging in October and one of my favorite parts of the whole experience has been getting to know other bloggers and reading their thoughts. I always try to show love by +1ing or tweeting or whatever. Usually only add one of my links if it truly has to do with whatever they've posted(:
Thanks for coming by Britney! Getting to know each other is definitely one of the main things I enjoy about the Blogging Community. It sounds like you’re already on a great path of support 🙂
I do all of these, and I genuinely enjoy them. I even tried to promote something I wanted to do called "Bloggers Helping Bloggers" in which we would swap blog buttons to display in our sidebars without charging for ad space and not a single person in the month I promoted it showed an interest. So I was really getting discouraged and wanted to quit, as I was honestly feeling kinda shunned/ignored. But I recently found a great blogging group on Facebook and I've felt so much happier since I joined and started participating in it. I didn't feel connected to the blogging community at all prior to that.
My recent post 15 Games for Family Game Night
I have found the craft blogging community the nicest and most supportive bunch of people I have probably ever "met" I love how friendly everyone is almost with out exception.
I tend to comment on just a few other posts per day as I do ramble on a bit and have no time to leave lots! I thinking quality rather then quantity. I love to pin things that are clever, beautiful or inspiring anyway so a quick pin is no problem, I find it hard to be all over all the different social medias so feel I don't share very well on any of them – definitely something to look at /think about.
Thant’s great Julie! Finding a supportive community is definitely one of the biggest blessings. I agree that quality has greater value than quantity when it comes to comments. Pins are an easy and fast way to show support…Thanks so much for coming by and visiting me today 😀
This sounds like me – leave a one sentence comment? Seriously? ME? No way, if I comment you'll probably learn my favorite food, hear half my life story, get a funny dog story, and learn what color underwear I'm wearing LOL

I do that too!!! Those are the best kinds of counts because j get to know you a bit better 🙂
im a new blogger and sometimes I feel so lost, this is a great outline on how to go about engaging with others. Thank you for your advice!
Welcome to the Blog Fun Karen!! 😀 I’m glad you found this post helpful. Please feel free to ask if there is anything else you have questions about. xoxo
All very true points and tips. I am a blogger tribe and we help each other out with our blogs.
Thank You!! Yes Tribes are a great way to create community and support circles. I am a part of one myself.
Love this. Engaging with others and supporting our fellow bloggers is such a great way to be involved in the community and make new friends.

It really is Julie..thanks so much for proving that with every visit 🙂
Great post, Tiffany! So very true. I appreciate how much you share. Pinning!

Thanks!! Thanks for the Pin Support Kimberly 🙂
I try to do this — sometimes I am better at it than at other times. I signed up for the NaBloPoMo this month and have done nothing else with it! It's so hard to keep up with the posting on the blog and then pinning the link-ups, etc. I haven't done other things I might have done. Thanks for linking up to the Bloggers Brags Pinterest Party! I’ve pinned you post to the Bloggers Brags Pinterest Board.
NaBloPoMo is definitely a huge task to take on – I love the experience but there are days it is hard to keep up and stay motivated. Thanks so much for hosting and giving me a great place to share!
Thank you for this grate tips.

It is so important Janelle and the fact that you take the time to engage is surely making an impact 🙂
Such great nuggets given here. We need to be mindful of these tips. We get further together than by ourselves.
My recent post The Enemy Within
Thanks Kim! Support of others is definitely the best way to be a success not only in Blogging but in life as well.
I completely agree! My favorite thing about blogging is the community that I have gotten to be a part of. I have made real friends with people I have met through blogging. It's so fun to be able to work together and help each other grow. I definitely do all of these things in order to build and maintain those relationships.
My recent post Home Bar Essentials
Hi Jenna! I think that may be one of my favorite things as well. When I started Blogging I never imagined the friendship I would find and come to treasure. Supporting each other is the best way to keep them…just life IRL 🙂
I agree with you totally. We should be all supporting each other and your suggestions are right on. It is nice to get comments and know what people think about what you wrote or even if they have experienced the same situation or whatever. I am visiting from Wednesday Roundup blog hop. I will twitt this article.
Thanks for coming by and for the share support! Comments always make me smile because they help me know that what I shared reached someone.
Great advice. I've been blogging for approximately 4 – 5 months now and it's not been easy, but I love it. It's posts like this one that keep me motivated. i will continue to be supportive and pray it's reciprocated. So glad to connect with you from the Ultimate Linky.

Thanks Clearissa! It can have ups and downs like any other endeavor but it the end it is so worth it especially when you find a great community. So happy to connect with you 😀
All wonderful tips!! It's amazing how much more you connect with people in a network once you start actively participating in threads etc as you say.

Thank you Rebecca, staying present is definitely key to making those connections. You begin to invest in that person and what is happening with them and their site…
This is such a great post. It is so true to connect with your community and be genuine with what you say. I love the people in my blogging community and although it takes some effort to contact, comment, and connect, the reward is worth it!
My recent post Helpful Tips to Survive a Holiday Road Trip
Thank You! I have been blessed as well with a really amazing set of Ladies who support and engage without restraint…you among them! Thanks so much for coming by today 🙂
Love this post! Especially the quality is better than quantity comment. Seems like many of us are caught up in just getting likes – a genuine comment goes a long way! I am fairly new at this and there is so much to learn and am thankful for all of the bloggers that share their experiences
Thank You Anne…likes and all can be important for generating income but I think the best foundation for even that is to have a true community.
All are great tips! Thanks so much for sharing! I have started to join linkups and they definitely help!
My recent post Trenton 10K Race Recap
Thanks!! So happy you came by today. LinkUps are a frat way to connect and not only give but gain support.
Thanks for sharing! Haha just kidding. Seriously, these are all very good tips. I get the short comments on my blog too and sometimes wonder if I should even approve them to be published. A couple of them I have and a couple of them I haven't. Don't ask me how I made my decision, because I have no rhyme or reason….It is good to hear if someone relates or not. Even if they don't perhaps they learned something new and let you know that. Visiting from #TurnitupTuesday
My recent post Turn It Up Tuesday #60
LMBO…funny!! Thanks Serena…feedback is so important as a writer because it can help determine where you go next. I appreciate all comments but those with quality content and reactions are definitely a lot more helpful 🙂 Thanks so much for coming by and for being a part of #TurnItUpTuesday !!
Awesome post Tiffany! I love every single one of your tips and couldn't agree with them more. One thing that always saddens me is when I go to read on a post on an already well-established blog (say 4-5 years old) and I see a heap of comments but no response from the blog author/owner. I realize life gets in the way, I realize they are probably busy, and don't have the time to reply to 100+ comments, but no replies ever at all…I hope I never become like that. It honestly discourages me from commenting in the first place!
My recent post Pregnancy From A Guy’s View
Thank You Ana!! Yes, that is a sad situation. I find that commenting as soon as I can helps in there not being an overwhelming amount to reply to. My smartphone definitely helps me stay on top of things 🙂
I don\’t want to let that happen to me either. Thanks so much for coming by to visit with me today!!
Some bloggers reply privately through email. I use to think the same thing until I learned that. So that could be the case – the blogger just doesn't reply on the blog. I don't reply by email because I don't want to give that impression.
My recent post 15 Games for Family Game Night
Hmm. That’s interesting. I’m not sure I knew that or not. I don’t think I would reply in that manner either. I love the interaction too much.
I like this! I'm really glad to be part of a few communities with you. 🙂
Looking forward to continuing to get to know you better!
My recent post A few words from me.
Thanks Andrea!! It has been great getting to know you recently and I look forward to continuing to do so 😀
I confess that online community building is one area I'm still growing in. I can be a huge introvert even in blogging! Thanks for the tips 🙂
My recent post "want to/am not/will." : a poem from Carlo's heart to mine.
I think online is the place I am the least introverted. My words tend to give me bit more freedom than the pressure of being face-to-face 😀 Thanks for coming by and I’m so glad you found them helpful!
Excellent post! Good, thoughtful comments and shares are indeed the lifeblood of the blogging community!
My recent post Wardrobe Favorites
Thanks Rachel… They really are without them I\’m not sure where any of us would be.
When I started a blog a couple of months ago I was excited to share my well thought out words with others. To blog is to give and share with others. Everyone has a voice and their voice matters. When nobody comments – it feels as if posting is pointless. I'm discouraged. I don't want to do this to others who blog. I understand what it is like to take time out of life and write. I write to encourage others and I take my blog serious. When I see just numbers of people who viewed my work but left nothing makes me feel used. I blog for free. I don't want to blog for money. I want to serve my community and I want to encourage other writers too. The one thing I have to watch is that I don't follow too many blogs and neglect to care by leaving a comment, like, or share. Thanks for this post and thanks everyone for your comments. I want to be more thoughtful about my comments now. You all got me to thinking.
Writing to share a part of yourself and your experience is the truest form I feel. A blog is the perfect platform for this and I agree, when you have no engagement it can not only be discouraging but a bit of a let down. I don\’t think your Readers intend to use you but it may be as I said, perhaps they can not find the words to express the impact your post had on them. Perhaps they are sharing instead of commenting? I am happy you came by Lisa and that my post had an impact on you. All we can do is try to engage and support others in the hope that we receive the same in return.
What an excellent point and i agree. Yes many readers my be sharing and yes it is not always easy to find the words to write when commenting. Perhaps I am being a bit hard on others when I made the statement that I feel used. Maybe a bit extreme. So thanks for helping me see another point of view. You are much more positive than I am.
My recent post Letter E Preschool Fun Day – Book, Craft, Snack
Oh I don’t feel it was hard…your feelings are what they are – yours and totally valid in that. I can see where you could feel that but I just try to think of the why behind people may or may not do things. 😀
I love these tips, great advice for someone like myself, who is just starting out…Thank you
Thank You Nancy!! Glad you had a chance to come by. You\’re more than welcome 🙂
All of the above! You are so right. Supporting others is what it's all about.
My recent post Blogalicious 2014 Recap & Takeaways
Thanks! Definitely…if we support each other we can all be successful…
I think you hit the nail on the head with your thoughts re: genuine interaction/discussion. Even worse than "nice post" is when something is said insinuating that the person clearly didn't even read the post! It breaks my heart because I want to create true relationships.
Thanks so much Susan. Haha! Yes, I have had the ‘nice post’ comment when I was sharing something emotional that was far from ‘nice’…LOL
This is definitely the next step for me! I've been a part of a few blogging communities now for a few months, and I should really start giving back to the group. I've done a few of the things on your list: commenting, retweeting, etc. It's good to remember that we're all in this together. Great post!
My recent post Skincare Lineup Part 2
Thanks Tiffany!! It is easy to join and get busy but the paybacks of being fully active can be so amazing for both you and the group 🙂
Love this!! This is such great info that I think people tend to forget. I get in slumps where I read blog posts but don't take the time to comment even when I think it's a great post. I need to suit doing that and really support my fellow bloggers!!
Thanks so much Ricci!!! It is easy to simply read and click away but we all needs that support either as a comment or share. I thank you for supporting me today 🙂
I couldn't agree more too!! Thanks so much for posting this and reminding us that we must engage and help our fellow bloggers.
Thank you Tammy and thanks for coming by.
Seriously so true! I wish that more people followed some of these rules. It's awesome to see when you have comments or likes, follows whatever's and then you get there and it's a "great post, thanks for sharing" type of day. I was like that in the beginning then I really became involved with so many of the people in this crazy world and I love them all! thanks for sharing <—LOL Holly
Thanks Holly. Yes, that can be such a let down at times. Still you\’re right!! When you get to know your fellow Bloggers you get to know the story behind their words and it makes it so much easier for your comments to be more than , thanks for sharing LOL 😉
Right? I’ve had comments that made it seem like the person didn’t even read the post but maybe just the title. It can be a real let down. Engagement is so key and just those few words that mean something are so important.
I couldn't agree more with all your tips. I must say I am guilty of leaving the "thanks for sharing". I try to pin and share as much as I can. True believer of what goes around comes around. I feel this also needs to shared with our readers. Before blogging, I felt uneasy commenting on blogs. That these people don't care what I have to say. Well that is further from the truth.

I think we all are at some point. Sometime you just want to support in some way but it doesn\’t always have to be a comment. Quality is always better than quantity – even with comments. Yes Melinda, we definitely care what you have to say and in most cases it can impact what else I have to say – after all you are my Readers! 🙂
