Small business owners have dedication, passion, and determination to bring quality goods and services to their community. The Small Business Saturday® campaign gives consumers like you and me the opportunity to shop small – supporting these businesses in one of the most important ways we can – through our purchases.
What Is Shop Small?
Shop Small is an initiative started in 2010 by American Express to focus on the small business owners within communities across the nation. Every year in November, their goal is to get the people of the communities shopping and supporting their local small businesses.

Small businesses survive from the support of the communities around them. Unlike large chain stores and franchises, the owners of these businesses are most times from the community itself. For them, the customers they serve are more than their next purchase: Each customer is a neighbor, friend or fellow small business owner. Supporting them is supporting our community.
Why Shop Fayetteville, NC?
Downtown Fayetteville has become one of my favorite places to be in the city. I can walk down the street and see the smiling faces of people I know. Walking into each store is like stopping to catch up with a friend. Finding the perfect gift for my special someone is not only fun but rewarding because I know my purchase helps that business grow.
When you shop small you get the chance to find unique, quality items that you just don’t see in department stores. Pieces that were made right where we live by people we know. I think one of the most fascinating things to me about shopping small is knowing that my money is going back into the community I live in.
