Disney is a slight obsession of mine and watching Disney movies is just one way I get to indulge it. This year Disney is creating for the nostalgic kid and the comic book nerds in all of us and I can’t wait!

Black Panther – Release Date February 16, 2018 [Marvel Studios] #BlackPanther

I can’t remember the last time I heard as much buzz around a movie as I have Black Panther! I have seen people planning full on events around this release date and for good reason!

We’ve seen snippets of Black Panther’s story through the last few Avengers movies but now we get to see his story in full big screen living color and action . . .

Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther” follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king—and Black Panther—is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.  –Walt Disney Studios

Black Panther is bringing together an amazing cast of African American actors and actresses to bring the entire Kingdom of Wakanda to the screen in a way that has never been done before.

“Black Panther” stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, with Angela Bassett, with Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.

The timing of the release is perfect as well – this movie will make the perfect Valentine’s Day day or night out for couples and the entire family! I know where I’ll be anyway!

A Wrinkle In Time – Release Date March 9, 2018 [Walt Disney Studios] #WrinkleInTime

This movie has me all in my NerdGirl feelings! I am already waiting on my soft-cover first edition reprint book to arrive. My oldest daughter and I plan on reading it before the release because I want all the amazing details of  Madeleine L’Engle’s original story to be fresh in our minds as I rediscover this classic on screen.

Once again Disney has outdone itself with the casting of this film with Oprah Winfrey as Mrs. Which, Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon as Mrs. Whatsit, Emmy® nominee Mindy Kaling as Mrs. Who, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Mrs. Murry, Michael Peňa as Red and introducing Storm Reid as Meg Murry, with two-time Emmy winner Zach Galifianakis as The Happy Medium and Emmy nominee Chris Pine as Mr. Murry.

Meg Murry is a typical middle school student struggling with issues of self-worth who just wants to fit in. The daughter of two world-renowned physicists, she is intelligent and uniquely gifted, as is Meg’s younger brother, Charles Wallace, but she has yet to realize it for herself. Complicating matters is the mysterious disappearance of Mr. Murry, which has left Meg devastated and her mother broken-hearted. Charles Wallace introduces Meg and her fellow classmate Calvin to three celestial beings (Mrs. Which, Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Who) who have journeyed to Earth to help search for their father, and together they embark on their formidable quest. Traveling via a wrinkling of time and space known as tessering, they are transported to worlds beyond their imagination where they must confront a powerful evil force. To make it back home to Earth, Meg must face the darkness within herself in order to harness the strength necessary to defeat the darkness rapidly enveloping the Universe. –Walt Disney Studios

Storm Reid is Meg Murry in Disney’s A WRINKLE IN TIME, an epic adventure based on Madeleine L’Engle’s timeless classic.

I can’t wait to share this movie with my Kiddies for the first time. I know they will love the way Disney brings this from print to screen.

SOLO: A Star Wars Story – May 25, 2018 [LucasFilm]

Star Wars has become a shared fave for my oldest daughter and I. We have watched every single film several times over and can’t wait to see the newest addition to the LucasFilm family. Oh and by the looks of the title – I think we are in for a treat with the story of one of our most beloved characters!

True to form this Star Wars Story is keeping most of the details about this one under wraps. Yet that just adds to the reason why I will be first in line when the theater doors open.

Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes. –Walt Disney Studios

Incredibles 2 – June 15, 2018 [Disney/Pixar] #Incredibles2

This is one I think I’ve been waiting for since my oldest was my only. . . LOL  Incredibles is one of those movies that gives you all the great feelings of a Super Hero movie plus all the family fun of a Saturday morning cartoon.

I can’t think of a better movie to help get the summer started! This is going to be a Family Fun Day for sure with the movie being at the very beginning!

Everyone’s favorite family of superheroes is back in “Incredibles 2” – but this time Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is in the spotlight, leaving Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell) and Dash (voice of Huck Milner) to navigate the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life. It’s a tough transition for everyone, made tougher by the fact that the family is still unaware of baby Jack-Jack’s emerging superpowers. When a new villain hatches a brilliant and dangerous plot, the family and Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) must find a way to work together again—which is easier said than done, even when they’re all Incredible.

Ant-Man and The Wasp – July 6, 2018 [Marvel Studios] #AntManandTheWasp

Oh Yeah!! Another Marvel one for the win!! This time we see the return of Ant-Man and get to see The Wasp put on her uniform for the first time!

We got our first glimpse of The Wasp in the original Ant-Man movie back in 2015 but now we get to see her put on her mother’s New & Improved suit and join Ant-Man in an amazing adventure.

From the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes “Ant Man and the Wasp,” a new chapter featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink. In the aftermath of “Captain America: Civil War,” Scott Lang grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a Super Hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his home life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside the Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from the past.

Disney’s Christopher Robin – August 3, 2018 [Walt Disney Studios]

Here is another feature destined to bring all my childhood wishes to the big screen. Winnie The Pooh is one of many beloved Disney characters yet for me learning the how behind those characters is always fascinating. I can’t wait to see how Christopher Robin and Winnie came to be.

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms – November 2, 2108 [Walt Disney Studios]

Confession: this movie has me drawn in by the simple extreme fantasy of it all. Have you seen the images or preview for this? It’s like stepping into a fantasy world in bold bright fantastical color! I love it and can’t wait to see all it has to offer.

All Clara (Mackenzie Foy) wants is a key – a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box that holds a priceless gift. A golden thread, presented to her at godfather Drosselmeyer’s (Morgan Freeman) annual holiday party, leads her to the coveted key—which promptly disappears into a strange and mysterious parallel world. It’s there that Clara encounters a soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight), a gang of mice and the regents who preside over three Realms: Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers and Land of Sweets. Clara and Phillip must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), to retrieve Clara’s key and hopefully return harmony to the unstable world. Starring Keira Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Disney’s new holiday feature film “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” is directed by Lasse Hallström and inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s classic tale.

Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 – November 21, 2018 [Walt Disney Animation Studios]

This is another one of those movies my entire family has been hoping and praying to make a comeback. We can’t wait to see what Penelope and Ralph get into next!

“Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2” leaves Litwak’s video arcade behind, venturing into the uncharted, expansive and thrilling world of the internet—which may or may not survive Ralph’s wrecking. Video game bad guy Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) and fellow misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman) must risk it all by traveling to the world wide web in search of a replacement part to save Vanellope’s video game, Sugar Rush. In way over their heads, Ralph and Vanellope rely on the citizens of the internet—the netizens—to help navigate their way, including a webite entrepreneur named Yesss (voice of Taraji P. Henson), who is the head algorithm and the heart and soul of trend-making site “BuzzzTube.”  –Walt Disney Studios

Mary Poppins Returns – December 25, 2018 [Walt Disney Studios] #MaryPoppinsReturns

For all of us who grew up waiting for the latest Disney Movie release the studio is taking a look back and bringing a few of our favorites back to the screen. I couldn’t be happier for this amazing Christmas present Disney has in store for us this year in the form of Mary Poppins!

PL Travers first introduced the world to the no-nonsense nanny in her 1934 children’s book “Mary Poppins.” However, the subsequent adventures of Mary Poppins remained only on the pages of the seven other PL Travers’ books…until now. “Mary Poppins Returns” is drawn from the wealth of material in these additional books. The film takes place in 1930s Depression-era London 24 years after the original film was set. Michael Banks works for the same financial institution that employed his father and still lives at 17 Cherry Tree Lane with his three children, Annabel, John and Georgie and their housekeeper Ellen. Carrying on in her mother’s tradition, Jane Banks campaigns for workers’ rights and provides a helping hand to Michael’s family. When the family suffers a personal loss, Mary Poppins magically re-enters their lives and with Jack’s help, brings joy and wonder back into their home.

–Walt Disney Studios

Jack (lin-Manuel Miranda), Annabel (Pixie Davies), Georgie (Joel Dawson), John (Nathanael Saleh) and Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) in Disney’s original musical MARY POPPINS RETURNS, a sequel to the 1964 MARY POPPINS which takes audiences on an entirely new adventure with the practically perfect nanny and the Banks family.

  9. Liz Avatar

This year is such an exciting year for Disney films! Black Panther is at the top of viewing lists for a good reason – I know so many people who are so hyped up about its release! And of course Avengers: Infinity War has all the foundations of being bigger and better and a visual marvel. (Haha…Marvel…) And the Solo movie is a bit of a mystery – four months until the release and no trailer, just a cast list and all the hype that initially went into the casting announcement?! Ha I’ll probably still watch it of course, I can’t pass up a Star Wars film 😉 The Incredibles 2 is bound to be a ton of fun, and it will be interesting to get more of Antman’s adventures. I’m really interested in but yet dreading A Wrinkle In Time – mostly because it was one of my absolute favorite books when I was really little, and it’s always terrifying when your favorite book becomes a movie because it’s never what you had imagined when you read it. Ah well, I’ll probably pick up that book again (as well as some other L’Engle books…OMG WAIT I HAVE A WHOLE BOOKSHELF OF THEM?! Dang, I better get to reading…) and see the movie when it comes out 🙂

    1. TheMrsTee Avatar

It definitely is Liz! I may be just a teeny bit – okay a lot bit – excited! Yes! Avengers looks like it is set to be the best one yet. Solo definitely is keeping things a bit hidden but I mean would it be Star Wars if they didn’t? I think that’s what has me even more excited to finally see it – getting to know! I feel the exact same way about book to movie films – it’s excited and nerve racking all at once. I’m going to re-read the book now to prep for the movie 😀
